California Missions Book wins Grand Prize

California MissionsThe California Missions: History, Art, and Preservation, written by Julia Costello and Edna Kimbro, has been awarded both the Grand Prize for Non-Fiction by the 2010 International Book Awards, and the 2010 Historic Preservation Book Prize from the University of Mary Washington Center for Historic Preservation. Published in 2009 by the Getty Institute, the book includes 270 pages of text and photographs. Historian Kevin Starr states “Each generation must reassess the history, architecture, art, and moral meaning of the California missions. This sumptuous book – a landmark in the revival of mission studies currently underway – will guide and structure all such assessments and preservation efforts for decades to come.”
